The roar of engines is about to return to the Great Rift Valley! The WRC Safari Rally Kenya, widely regarded as the most grueling and unpredictable event on the global motorsport calendar, is back for 2026. From March 12th to March 15th, the world’s elite drivers will descend upon Naivasha to tackle the volcanic dust, high-speed tracks, and treacherous “fesh-fesh” sand that make this race a true test of man and machine.

A New Look for the 2026 Safari Rally

This year’s edition brings some significant changes to the traditional format. For the first time in several years, the “mini-event” and ceremonial start in Nairobi have been sidelined. Instead, the action is centered entirely in Naivasha. The iconic head-to-head spectator stage at Kasarani has also been removed from the program, meaning the focus shifts entirely to the raw, rugged terrain of the lakeside town.

Organizers recently announced a slight modification to the route, reducing the total competitive distance by approximately 12 kilometers. The Loldia stage has been shortened, bringing the total competitive distance for the four-day event to 338.43 km.

The 2026 WRC Itinerary: Day-by-Day

The action kicks off on Thursday, March 12th, with the Shakedown at the newly created Nawisa stage. This gives fans their first glimpse of the Rally1 cars at full tilt before the ceremonial flag-off at the Wildlife Research Training Institute (WRTI).

Thursday: The competitive action starts late in the afternoon with the Camp Moran and Mzabibu stages.
Friday: A massive day of racing featuring ten stages, including the high-speed Kengen Geothermal runs and the fan-favorite Kedong stage.
Saturday: Drivers head toward Lake Elementaita for the Sleeping Warrior stage—a segment famous for its breathtaking views and car-breaking rocks.
Sunday: The grand finale takes place at Hell’s Gate. The second pass of this stage serves as the Wolf Power Stage, where extra championship points are up for grabs before the podium ceremony at 2:15 PM.

Toyota’s Dominance vs. The Challengers

Toyota Gazoo Racing enters the 2026 WRC Safari Rally with a formidable reputation. The team has been unbeaten on Kenyan soil for the last six editions. Last year’s winner, Elfyn Evans, returns to defend his crown alongside legends like Sébastien Ogier, who has already tasted victory in Kenya twice.

However, the competition is stiff. Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT is bringing a heavy-hitting lineup including Thierry Neuville and Esapekka Lappi, while M-Sport Ford looks to upset the order with their Puma Rally1 cars. Local fans will also be cheering on reigning African champion Karan Patel and veteran Carl Tundo, who aim to show the internationals how to navigate the Kenyan wild.
